Our business, which has been in the family now for three generations, represents down-to-earth inn culture as an integral part of life. This typically includes a bar, a regulars‘ table and an innkeeper who serves in person. We are proud of our Austrian cuisine and seasonal ingredients.
Our menu offers a variety of game and fish from the surrounding forests and stretches of waters. Traditional dishes from the region, prepared with joy, using ingredients from quality-conscious producers. We are a proud partner in the association “Niederösterreichische Wirtshauskultur”, the quality association of Lower Austrian inn culture.
The Rothschild Glass Salon has served various purposes throughout history: in the past, it was at times even used as a church or as a gymnasium. The salon was built by the Rothschild family at the beginning of the last century with the intention of creating a place suffused with a special ambience suitable for celebrations. Even today, between the months of April and October, this extraordinary place can still be booked for special occasions, including family celebrations, exhibitions, concerts, seminars, weddings, meetings, courses, presentations and many more.
The pavilion can seat up to one hundred people on a surface of 125 m2.
We would be happy to make you a personalised offer.
Whether it’s travel provisions or everyday necessities you need, our inn has always been a local supplier to the area. Should you require something outside of normal opening hours, we can meet your basic needs with our on-site shop that also sells tobacco and cigarettes.
Rich in woodlands. As simple as our surroundings can be described in one word, as diverse are the possibilities we can offer to our guests.
In keeping with the original meaning of an inn as an important hub for commercial travellers, our location in Langau offers good transport links to the surrounding villages of Gaming, Lunz am See, Lackenhof am Ötscher and Mariazell. This makes our Schützenwirt an ideal starting point for exploring and enjoying activities all year round in the region of the Ybbstal Alps. Our local mountain, the Ötscher, is also the highest mountain in the Mostviertel at 1893 metres high. Its rugged rock faces shape the landscape and where there is forest and mountains, there is also plenty of water: The Erlauftal valley is home to the turquoise-green Lake Erlauf in the southeast. The crystal-clear River Ois, which eventually joins the river Ybbs, flows right near to the inn. Not far away is the mystical Lake Lunzer See. Such surroundings invite our guests to: Breathe in the forest air.
Pleasure hiking, high-altitude euphoria or going on a pilgrimage – our inn is located along the Upper Austrian Pilgrimage Trail and offers plenty of hiking opportunities to suit every preference. From here, you can discover the “Dürrenstein Wilderness Area” by going on themed guided tours; it’s a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and the only wilderness area in Austria. The “Wellenklänge” festival takes place every year in July and August on the Lake Stage in Lunz am See. Should you wish to delve into a completely different world, then the Ötscher Limestone Cave is the perfect place for you.
Whether you like climbing to great heights or walking for miles, or equally if you love to explore sign-posted forest trails, this area also has a variety of activities on offer to cyclists.
Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or ski tours – everything is possible here. The entrance to the cross-country skiing trail is right next to the inn, and the bus to the Lackenhof am Ötscher skiing area – just 4kms away – stops right outside our door. There are 8 lifts and 19kms of pistes of all levels of difficulty, as well as up to 30kms of groomed cross-country skiing trails and winter hiking trails.
The Hochkar ski resort lies between 1,300 and 1,800 metres above sea level and is 37kms away. The Ybbstal Brine Bath is only 20kms away.
